Building Your Postpartum Nest

Updated: 1 day ago

One of my favorite things to prepare for during pregnancy is the postpartum nest. Ideally this is in your cozy, comfy bedroom. But you might set up a mini version in the living room as well.

In my life and my work, I’m always focused on simplicity + impact. Our collective obsession with baby gear and gadgets and preparing for every possible scenario brings so much anxiety to pregnancy and leaves us overwhelmed in the early postpartum weeks. These are the most helpful and happy items I lean on set myself up for the most restful and easy transition with a newborn. And I highly recommend having a dinner tray for the bed for comfort and to keep things a bit cleaner.

Hydration

  • Large water bottles to be refilled morning and evening

  • Electrolyte tabs or powder

  • 2 spill proof stainless steel tumblers (for hot drinks - I like to have one container of postpartum tea and one of broth every morning to finish by EOD)

Make a daily hydration plan

Nourishment

Easy to eat snack stash for middle of the night hunger or a backup to warm and balanced meals

  • My postpartum snack tradition: Homemade trail mix with nuts, dried fruit, chocolate gems, goldfish or pretzels

  • Easy to eat fruits like citrus, apples, bananas

  • Bars, pouches, snacks you know you will actually eat

Note - this isn't the "ideal" postpartum food. We want warm and digestible. This is more about practicality - think about what YOU enjoy eating that offers replenishment that you can literally keep next to your bed!
